We are excited to announce Compass Day 2026! Join us for interactive workshops with Renee Jun,
Educational Planning Team Leader at Compass Publishing, featuring practical ideas you can use in your Young Learner classes. Compass Publishing titles will be on display for you to browse, compare, and explore, with plenty of time to ask questions and find materials for your classes. There will also be a prize raffle and gifts for all attendees.

From Sounds to Communication
- How Systematic Phonics Builds Confident English Learners
Phonics is more than learning how to read. By helping learners connect English sounds with letters and spelling patterns, systematic phonics provides an important foundation for listening, speaking, reading, and writing. This practical session will explore common challenges for young learners in Japan and demonstrate classroom strategies and activities that help students move from sounds and words toward confident English communication.
From Practice to Active Communication
- How Scaffolding Builds Confident Communicators
Knowing English does not always mean being ready to use it. This practical session will explore how scaffolding can help learners move step by step from comprehensible input and controlled practice to confident, meaningful communication. Through classroom activities and examples, teachers will see how careful support, rehearsal, pair work, and personalization can encourage every learner to participate and communicate more actively.
Teacher Trainer - Renee Jun
Renee Jun is Educational Planning Team Leader at Compass Publishing, where she conducts teacher training in Korea and across Asia. With more than ten years of experience teaching English to young learners, she brings extensive classroom experience to her teacher training. Having lived in both Japan and Australia, Renee also brings an international perspective to young learner education and has led Compass Day events across Asia, including in Thailand and Indonesia.
